Empty

"Empty" is a collection of images that explore and investigate the changes happening in the area where I live, the series targets my concerns through pictures of empty and abandoned buildings. The increasing number of empty houses in the area, new and old alike, for me, reflect the alarming effects of the recession on our community. I feel that these buildings emanate a sense of sadness, having been forgotten and left unoccupied for months, sometimes years. Old houses are crumbling away; while new houses sit with plastic still on their windows, shrink wrapped and identical, waiting to be inhabited.

My more recent work focuses predominantly on documentary, exploring the issues that surround me and affect my life in some way. I have gradually moved away from using digital this last year and now prefer to take pictures with a medium format film camera. Using medium format has been especially enjoyable whilst working on "Empty" as each picture was taken at dusk using long exposures.
